Sun Sea News 21 Sept: the rain found Jávea, free TRAM Tuesday, Calpe’s health plot
Monday round-up from Alicante to Dénia: 80 litres on the Montgó, San Andrés flooded again, TRAM free on Car-Free Day, Calpe’s second health-centre land, D*na workshops and the usual September jobs dip.
Hola, Terrace Crew.
Last Friday I told you the orange alert had mostly missed Calpe. That was true on Thursday. Then the cloud hooked itself on the Montgó and came back for the weekend. My husband had a day off on Friday, so we decided to go to Denia castle; we got drenched; the rain was very heavy and even flooded the road where we parked our car. Be careful this time of year; even a short shower can cause chaos.
The weather finally hit
Friday into Saturday, the storm sat on the Montgó. Jávea’s port area took 81.8 litres per square metre. The Montgó slope and Cap de Sant Antoni were not far behind. Dénia’s Corral del Calafat saw fifty-odd litres. Ondara and Pedreguer were in it too. Cap de la Nau, a few kilometres away, barely got five. That is September weather here: one town under water, the next one hanging washing out.
Grupo San Andrés in Dénia flooded again, the street that sits lower than everything around it. Streets closed, outdoor events pulled, a painting contest washed off. Vox is already demanding “effective action” on the usual flood points.

Tuesday - Día sin Coche
22 September. TRAM d’Alacant is free for the day, including the Marina Alta stretch. Generalitat campaign: public transport, share, connect. If you can leave the car, this is a cheap experiment; shame some stations are not closer to the towns.

Calpe
The town has done the last paperwork it can on a second health centre: 13,675 m² in Gargasindi, next to the new IES Les Salines. The full council voted to put in water, power, sewage and phone so the Conselleria can decide if the plot is fit. Calpe’s line is: we have handed over the land and the utilities. Now Valencia has to put it in a budget..
Also open: a public consultation on the noise ordinance, through 20 October, on the town-hall site. If you live near a terrace that thinks midnight is a suggestion, this is the form, not the WhatsApp rant. Otoño Cultural still starts 23 September. Thirty events. Keep the agenda on your phone.
Dénia
The cemetery is getting 192 niches and about 200 columbaria. All Saints is six weeks away. That is not a coincidence.
D*na Festival (26–27 September, Marineta Cassiana) has opened workshop bookings. Ferran Adrià, Paco Roncero and Susi Díaz are on the bill. Parking will be grim. You knew that.
Housing: Dénia has 67 public-protection homes and about 90 going up. The ones being built are landing near €260,000. “Affordable” is doing a lot of work in that sentence.
Teulada, Calpe, Dénia and Benissa are all spending a brutal share of income on a mortgage, Teulada the worst on the local list.
The new town bus is the rare good-news chart: 31% more passengers than the old service’s best year, about 2,200 a day, beach line L3 doing the heavy lifting.
Piano Festival is already on (19 September through early December). Blood-donation marathon at the Centro Social on 23rd September. Marina Dénia’s 100 Paladas Solidarias against breast cancer is on 27th September in the port.
August jobs were the best August on record for the comarca, then September did what September does and shed just over a thousand affiliations. Summer leaves. The contracts leave with it.
Altea
Patronales are in motion. Queens crowned at the weekend; the pretty-town week is the one in the autumn calendar. If you only do one fiesta before October, this is still the photogenic one. Get there early.
What’s on the diary
- Today: Dénia Monday market, as usual
- Tuesday 22nd: free TRAM, Car-Free Day
- Tuesday 23rd: Altea Otoño Cultural begins in Calpe’s diary — wait, Calpe Otoño Cultural 23rd September
- 23rd Sept: blood donation, Dénia
- 25–29 Sept: Altea’s main days
- 26–27 Sept: D*na
- 27th Sept: 100 Paladas, Dénia port
- 1st October: new driving rules. The bike-overtaking one will catch the N-332. I wrote it last month.
The boring useful bit
Sea: still on if you like it fresh. After the weekend rain, look at the colour of the water before you dive in, like in August.
If you only open one official tab this week: AEMET and the TRAM timetable for Tuesday.
Have a good one.
