Costa Blanca North News July 19th 2026: Heatwave, Dénia Fiestas, Summer Traffic & Local Updates from Alicante to Denia

Anyway, back to the news and the heat…

Summer is well and truly here on the Costa Blanca North — you can tell by the sudden rush to book restaurants for evening meals, the sight of bikini-clad shoppers in the supermarket (complete with flip-flops and a bottle of rosé), and the familiar sound of cars politely honking at roundabouts because someone’s forgotten which lane they’re in. The beaches are busy, the evenings are gloriously long, and there’s plenty happening from Alicante right up to Denia, including Javea, El Campello, Benidorm, Villajoyosa and the inland towns. Here’s what’s been going on this week.

Extreme Heatwave Continues Across the Marina Alta

Aemet has kept the orange to red alerts in place, with temperatures still pushing up to 40°C in inland spots and nights staying uncomfortably warm. The heat is affecting the whole Costa Blanca North, so stay safe — keep hydrated, use plenty of sun cream, and avoid the strongest sun between 12 and 4pm, especially if you’re out hiking or on the beaches.

Dénia Festa Major in Full Swing

Dénia’s big summer celebrations continue with concerts, the traditional Bous a la Mar in the port, and plenty of street parties. The fiestas have also sparked passionate discussions about animal welfare, with local activists voicing their concerns. It remains one of the biggest events of the year in the Marina Alta.

Summer Traffic Operation 2026

Spain’s special summer traffic operation is running at full strength. Roads between Alicante and Denia are noticeably busier, especially on Friday evenings and weekends. The N-332 and coastal routes around Benidorm, Villajoyosa and El Campello are seeing increased volumes.

Local tip: If you’re heading to the beach in Javea (Arenal or port), Calpe or Denia, arrive early or use the paid car parks to avoid the stress.

Fiestas Across the Wider Region

Moraira is celebrating its patron saint fiestas with maritime processions and fireworks, while Benissa and other inland villages have their own patronales running through July. There’s music, food, and community spirit everywhere you look.

Positive Local News

Unemployment in the Marina Alta has reached its lowest level since 2008 — a great sign for the local economy as the summer season picks up. Calpe and Benissa continue to invest in improvements to promenades and sustainable tourism.

Terrace Tip of the Week

Early mornings and late afternoons are still the most comfortable times for walks, hikes or getting things done. The golden light at sunset on the terrace is pure magic right now.
