Javea has a lovely kind of charm that’s hard to explain until you’ve spent some time here. It’s not as built-up as other parts of the Costa Blanca, and it still feels like it has its own personality — dramatic cliffs, hidden coves, a proper working port, and an old town that actually feels lived in.

The tricky part is figuring out where to stay, because each area really does have its own vibe. Whether you’re here for a week, a few months, or thinking about making the move, the right spot can make a big difference to how much you enjoy it.

After 14 years of running holiday rentals in Javea Arenal, one thing I’ve noticed is that most people like to be close to the beach in the summer months. It’s just easier — especially when you want to wander down for a swim without thinking too much about it. There’s even a little tourist train in summer that runs between the beach, the port, and the old town.

That said, Javea has something for everyone, no matter which part you end up in. Here’s our honest take on the different areas, along with some hotel recommendations that actually suit each one.

Where to Stay in Javea: Finding the Right Area

Javea is quite spread out, so the area you choose really shapes your stay. Some spots are lively and convenient, while others are quieter and more local. Below is a breakdown of the main areas and what they’re actually like.

Javea Shipwreck

Playa del Arenal – Best for Beach Access

This is Javea’s main sandy beach and the most popular area for first-time visitors. There’s a long promenade with restaurants and bars, so everything feels convenient. It’s lively in summer, but still has that relaxed feel.

Best for: People who want beach access and don’t want to think too much about where to eat or park every day.

It’s a great choice if this is your first time in Javea and you want things to be easy. The downside is that it can get busy in peak season, and parking isn’t always straightforward.

Hotel recommendation: Booking.com

Hotel options right on the beach are limited, so most people stay in apartments here. If you’d prefer a hotel, Hotel Naranjos is a solid, well-priced choice nearby. For something more luxurious with sea views, the Parador de Javea is also worth considering.

Javea Arenal Beach

Javea Old Town – Best for Local Atmosphere

If you want to feel like you’re actually in Spain, the Old Town is lovely. Narrow streets, traditional houses, little squares, and a proper local atmosphere. It’s especially nice in the evenings once the day visitors have left.

Best for: People who enjoy wandering, good local restaurants, and a more authentic feel.

It’s not right on the beach, but it’s only a 10–15 minute walk (or a short drive) down to the port or Arenal. Parking can be tricky in the centre, so keep that in mind if you’re renting a car.

Hotel recommendation: El Rodat Javea

Hotel El Rodat is our favourite boutique option near the Old Town. It’s set in beautiful gardens and has a calm, high-quality feel. Perfect if you want somewhere peaceful with a bit of character.

Narrow Street of Javea Pueblo

Puerto de Javea – Best for Restaurants and Convenience

The port is lively, pretty, and full of restaurants and bars. It has a relaxed, slightly international feel and is one of the most convenient areas if you like being able to walk out for dinner.

Best for: Food lovers and anyone who wants to be in the middle of things without it feeling too touristy.

It’s especially nice in the evenings when the lights come on around the marina. The only real downside is that it gets busy in summer and parking can be difficult.

Hotel recommendation Hotel Parador Javea

The Parador de Javea is the standout hotel here. It has proper sea views, a big pool, and that slightly grand-but-still-friendly atmosphere. It’s a great choice if you want a bit of luxury and a fantastic location.

Cala Granadella Area – Best for Peace and Scenery

This is one of the most beautiful parts of Javea. Cala Granadella is a stunning cove with turquoise water and dramatic cliffs. The area around it is quieter and more residential, with some incredible views.

Best for: Nature lovers, couples, and anyone who wants peace and beauty over convenience.

It’s not the most practical if you want to be near restaurants every night, but it’s perfect if you love hiking, swimming in beautiful coves, and waking up to lovely views. Most people stay in apartments or villas here rather than hotels.

Montgó and Upper Areas – Best for Longer Stays

These are the more spread-out, residential parts of Javea, often with nice views and a calmer atmosphere. They’re popular with expats and people planning longer stays.

Best for: Anyone staying for a few weeks or more who wants space and a quieter base.

You’ll need a car if you stay up here, but many people love the peace and the fact that it feels more like real life rather than a holiday resort. Hotel options are limited, but there are plenty of excellent apartments and villas, many with private pools.

Quick Guide: Which Area Suits You?

  • First time in Javea — Playa del Arenal or the Puerto are usually the easiest.
  • Want peace and beauty — Cala Granadella or the Montgó area.
  • Love local atmosphere — The Old Town.
  • Food and convenience — The Puerto.
  • Longer stay — Montgó or the upper residential areas.
  • Travelling with a dog — The Old Town, Montgó, or quieter parts near Cala Granadella tend to work well.

Practical Tips for Booking in Javea

Summer gets busy, so if you want somewhere with parking or a sea view, it’s worth booking ahead. Winter is much quieter and often better value if you’re thinking of staying longer.

If you’re bringing a dog, always check directly with the hotel or apartment — some places are much more welcoming than others. And if you’re renting a car (which we usually recommend), double-check the parking situation before you book.

Final Thoughts

Javea really does have something for most people. Some areas are lively and convenient, others are peaceful and beautiful. The key is thinking about what matters most to you — beach access, food, nature, or just somewhere nice to slow down.
