Hola Terrace Crew,

Happy Monday! Let’s catch up on the latest happenings across the Marina Alta, from Denia through to Calpe and the wider Alicante coast.

We’ve had a nice stretch of cooler days, but proper summer heat is arriving this week. The sea is warming beautifully, and the whole region is shifting into full summer mode.

This Week in the Marina Alta (Denia to Calpe & Beyond)

  • Teachers’ strike update: After 87% of teachers rejected the latest proposal, they have temporarily suspended the strike. Fingers crossed for a fair resolution soon so families and schools in Calpe, Benissa, Dénia, and Jávea can finish the year smoothly.
  • Fiestas season is gaining momentum: Moraira’s Moros y Cristianos is in full swing with parades, music, and celebrations. Benissa’s big Moors & Christians weekend is coming at the end of June, with the full programme now released. Pego is also building excitement with their Publicació Festera, kicking off the season.
  • Benissa Town Hall renovation: The town has shared more details on the impressive new renovation project. Architect Reme Giner explained how the work blends heritage preservation with contemporary solutions and creates a new public square for the community.
  • Calpe support for businesses: Small businesses and self-employed residents in Calp can apply for up to €4,000 in aid to help with the impact of the energy crisis. Worth checking if you qualify. Calp has also completed important forest fire prevention works in the Empedrola area — good news as the summer heat builds.
  • Sport & summer activities: The Marina Alta Open Water Circuit starts soon with six events, beginning with the “Entre Cales” crossing in Benissa on 15 June. There are also new swimming courses starting in Teulada-Moraira and guided meditations returning in Benitatxell for conscious summer wellbeing.
  • Beaches & tourism prep: Dénia continues major clean-ups ahead of peak season, and the Marina Alta is flying a strong number of Blue Flags again this year across Denia, Calpe, Benissa, and surrounding areas.
