Sun Sea News – Monday 8 June 2026 ☀️🍹

Hola from the terrace, Terrace Crew!

Pull up a chair and grab something cold. It’s been another lovely week in the Marina Alta — the sun is shining, the days are stretching out, and summer is properly settling in.

The teachers’ strike hits home.

The ongoing indefinite strike by public school teachers across the Valencian Community continues to affect families right across Calpe, Benissa, Dénia, Javea and the rest of the Marina Alta. Participation has been strong, with many schools running on minimum services. Teachers are calling for better pay, smaller class sizes, and real support for students. It’s a tough situation for everyone — parents, teachers, and kids alike. We’ll keep following developments closely and bring you the latest as it happens.

Teaches Strike

Weather – summer arrived early

We’ve had a properly warm week with temperatures often in the late 20s and low 30s. The sea has warmed up beautifully (around 21–22°C now) and those long golden evenings are back in full force. The talk of a strong Super Niño feels very real — we’re in for a hotter and drier than average summer. The next few days look settled and sunny, so remember the sun cream and stay hydrated.

Fiesta season is waking up.

Great news for those who love the traditional celebrations — Moraira has officially kicked off its Moros y Cristianos festivities (running until 14 June). There’s already been a medieval market, marching bands, and concerts, with the big Conquista Mora on the 12th, Reconquista Cristiana on the 13th, and the spectacular Gala Parade on the 14th. The bunting is up, and the town is buzzing!

The Summer is Waking Up

Other local bits

  • Calpe has released its full summer events calendar — plenty of music, markets and beach activities coming up.
  • There was a brilliant turnout for the Circuit à Peu running event in La Xara at the weekend.
  • Dénia has launched a new volunteer campaign for whale watching — always exciting when the marine life shows up off our coast.
  • Beaches are looking gorgeous and starting to fill gently with early holidaymakers.

Terrace tip of the week

Early mornings and late afternoons are still the sweetest times for walks, hikes or getting things done. The light is just beautiful right now.

How’s everything feeling in your corner of the Marina Alta? Dealing with school strike chaos, heading down to the Moraira fiestas, or just soaking up these warm evenings? Drop a comment below — I genuinely love hearing your stories.

Until next Monday… keep it slow, keep it sunny, and don’t forget the ice in the sangria.

¡Salud, mis amigos!
