Denia to Ibiza (or Mallorca) by Balearia Ferry
The Easiest Bucket-List Island Hop from Your Northern Costa Blanca Terrace
Pull up a lounger, grab a virtual sangria, and let’s talk about the ferry that’s been sitting on our bucket list for way too long.
Living up here in the Northern Costa Blanca (Denia, Jávea, Calpe crew, you know who you are) means the Balearic Islands are basically staring at you across the water every clear day. Flying is fine if you love tiny seats and 3am airport alarms, but the Balearia ferry from Denia? That’s the proper slow-life, zero-stress way to do it. No passport queues, bring the car, bring the dog, bring the beach bag the size of a small caravan.
We haven’t actually sailed it yet (still ticking it off the list this summer), but we’ve done the digging, so you don’t have to. Here’s the no-fluff, real-talk guide to the Denia–Balearics ferry in 2026.

Where does it actually go?
Denia → Ibiza: Direct fast ferry, about 2h 15min (sometimes a little longer depending on the boat). Super popular route. Denia → Palma de Mallorca: Roughly 5h 15min with a quick stop in Ibiza (you don’t get off, enjoy the view).Bonus option: Some sailings continue or connect to Formentera (around 2h 15min from Denia).
Basically, from Denia port you can be sipping a proper Ibizan sunset drink the same afternoon or waking up in Mallorca the next morning. Perfect weekend warrior territory.
How much are we talking? (Rough 2026 prices)
Prices fluctuate like the Mediterranean wind, but here’s the ballpark for a standard seat (one way, non-resident):
Denia–Ibiza: from €65 per person. Denia**–Mallorca**: from €70 per person
Round-trip averages:
Ibiza without a car ≈ €99Mallorca without a car ≈ €82With a car? Add roughly €80–€100+, depending on size and season.
Pro tip: If you’re an official resident of the Valencian Community or Balearics, you can score crazy-low fares (we’re talking €16–€18 one way on some sailings). Check the “resident” option when booking.
Book early for July/August or you’ll pay silly money. Off-season (spring/autumn) is where the bargains live.

What’s it actually like on board?
These are fast, modern ferries (think Eleanor Roosevelt or similar). Expect:
Comfortable seats + premium lounges if you want to splash out. Free Wi-Fi (works better than some cafés in Denia). Outdoor terrace with sea views and its own bar – yes please Café with actual decent coffee and snacks (or bring your own picnic like the pros), kids’ area, digital entertainment, and plenty of space to stretch
It’s not a luxury cruise, but it’s way more civilised than a budget flight. You can actually move around, watch the coastline disappear, and arrive feeling like a human instead of luggage.
Pet-friendly? (Yes, and we love that)
Our dog-owning readers, this one’s for you. Balearia has dedicated “casitas de la calma” (cute little pet houses) and pet-friendly seating areas. Small dogs often get to stay with you in certain zones; bigger pups go in the ventilated deck areas. You’ll need to book the pet option in advance and bring their up-to-date paperwork. Way easier than trying to smuggle them through airport security.
Practical bits you actually need to know
Port in Denia: Easy to find, modern terminal, parking right there. Arrive 60–90 minutes early (90 if you’ve got a car).Check-in: Quick and painless compared to airports. Luggage: No silly weight limits. Pack like you’re moving house if you want. Car on board: The whole point for many of us is to drive straight off in Ibiza or Palma and explore without renting another one.

Our top terrace tips before you sail
Download the Balearia app or book straight on their site – it’s straightforward. Summer mornings (08:30-ish) and late afternoons (17:00) are the sweet spots for Ibiza. If you get seasick, the Med is usually calm on this crossing, but ginger chews never hurt. Pair it with a day trip or long weekend – many people do Denia–Ibiza same-day return in shoulder season. Join the Baleària Club if you think you’ll do this more than once – small discounts add up.
Look, flying has its place, but when you’re already living this close to paradise, the ferry just feels right. Less stress, more views, and you roll up to the islands like you actually belong there.
It’s officially moving from our bucket list to “booked for June” territory.
