Sun Sea News Roundup 7th April
🌊 Your Weekly Costa Blanca & Marina Alta Scoop – April 2026
Hola from the sun-soaked strip between Alicante and Denia! This week, the region served up the usual mix: a dash of spring chaos, a sprinkle of local pride, and the eternal dance between “mañana” and “¡vamos!”.
Traffic & The Great Easter Exodus. If you tried to drive into the Marina Alta this past weekend, you probably spent more time admiring the back of the car in front than the sea views. Two-kilometre tailbacks on the autopista and proper gridlock crawling into Dénia — classic post-Easter return vibes. Pro tip: next time, just embrace the siesta and leave earlier (or later). The roads are reminding us all why we moved here… until we actually need to get somewhere.
Sad News on the Roads A tough one: a 57-year-old cyclist sadly lost his life in a collision with a car on the N-332 near Calp. Our hearts go out to his family. Another incident involving a cyclist between Benissa and Calp has locals calling for extra caution on that stretch. Spring cycling weather is glorious, but these roads demand respect from everyone — drivers and riders alike.
Dénia in the Spotlight
Over 8,000 signatures (and counting) against the proposed leisure centre at El Raset. Locals are digging in, saying they need even more voices to reach European ears. Classic Dénia passion — protecting that waterfront vibe. Big solidarity energy with the XI Marcha Solidaria supporting the Raquel Payá special education centre as it marks 40 years. Dénia is showing up for its community, as always. On a lighter (and very salty) note, the “Tapioca” and “Plis Play” teams from Dénia crushed a real-time recreation of the historic Ruta de la Sal. Paddleboards, history, and local heroes — what’s not to love?
Benissa & Inland Gems Benissa is in full spring mode: they’ve just approved a €1.5 million budget tweak from the surplus to invest in sustainable projects, infrastructure, and public buildings. Smart money is moving where it matters. Easter festivities wrapped up with workshops for making mona de Pascua and traditional sweets — the kind of hands-on fun that makes these inland towns feel extra special. Keep an eye on nearby El Poble Nou de Benitatxell too — their Mitjafava Fest (15–19 April) is getting a glow-up with a new location and even an iPhone/Android game called “La Fava Exterminadora”. Only in the Marina Alta would you get a bean festival with its own mobile game.
Calp & Around Calp’s “Calle del Arte” is now a monthly artistic date in the old town — perfect for a wander and a coffee while soaking up local creativity. Meanwhile, health services are ramped up in tourist-heavy areas for the tail end of Semana Santa and Pascua.
Alicante City Quick Hit Down in the capital, the big talk is the upcoming reveal on the Parque Central project — when will we finally know the full plans for that massive green space and the controversial soterramiento? Fingers crossed it brings more breathing room to the city. On a brighter note, unemployment figures dropped again, showing the province is still creating jobs.
The Feel-Good Bit: Dolphins spotted playing off the Marina Alta coast — always a magical reminder of why we’re lucky to call this stretch home. And yes, the paddleboarder attempting the Ibiza-to-Dénia crossing is still out there living his best (and probably most exhausted) life.
That’s your sun-drenched snapshot for the week! A bit of traffic frustration, community spirit, one or two “¡ay!” moments, and plenty of reasons to pour another glass of sangria and enjoy the view.
What caught your eye this week? Got a local story, photo, or rant about the N-332? Drop it in the comments — we love hearing from fellow Costa Blanca survivors.
