Welcome to my very first restaurant review on Sun Sea Foodie! πŸŒΆοΈπŸ›

After years of eating my way around the Costa Blanca (from beachside paellas to hidden tapas gems), I finally decided it was time to put pen to paper – or rather, fingers to keyboard – and share the real scoop on the places that make our expat life here so delicious. And what better way to kick things off than with a cracking Friday night curry at Guras Curry House in Moraira?

We rolled up around 6ish on Friday, and the place was buzzing but not chaotic – perfect Friday energy. The exterior is unassuming (classic Costa Blanca roadside gem), but step inside, and it’s all warm lighting, subtle decor with a touch of Himalayan flair, and the most incredible aroma hitting you right away. Think aromatic curries, sizzling tandoori, and fresh naan – our stomachs were already doing happy dances. ☺️

The staff greeted us like old friends (super friendly, attentive without hovering). They happily explained the menu – a beautiful mix of classic Indian favourites and authentic Nepalese twists that you don’t find everywhere on the coast. Vegetarian/vegan/gluten-free options galore, too, which is always a win for our mixed group.

What We Ordered

We went full family-style to try as much as possible – because why choose when you can have it all? Here’s the delicious rundown from our Friday night feast:

  • Starters: Started strong with crispy poppadoms and the trio of homemade chutneys (minty fresh, sweet mango, and sharp onion – all zingy and addictive). We skipped straight to the mains but wish we’d grabbed some momos or samosas next time – the aromas from nearby tables were teasing us!

Mains:

  • Chicken Tikka Sizzler – sizzling hot on the plate, perfectly spiced (not overly sweet), with tender, charred chicken straight from the tandoor. Juicy, smoky, and full of that classic tikka flavour we crave. πŸ”₯

  • Lamb Shashlik – tender lamb pieces grilled with onions and peppers, served sizzling. The char on the meat and veggies was spot-on – smoky, succulent, and bursting with spices.

  • Lamb Balti (or Bali-style) – rich, aromatic sauce with chunks of melt-in-your-mouth lamb. Balanced heat and depth that kept us going back for more spoonfuls over rice.

Chicken Shashlik – tender Chicken pieces grilled with onions and peppers, served sizzling. The char on the meat and veggies was amazing – smoky, succulent, and bursting with spices, served with a hot sauce.

Sides:

  • Garlic naan – buttery, garlicky, fluffy perfection. We tore into it like it was going out of fashion!
  • Plain basmati rice to soak up all those gorgeous sauces.

Portions? Just Right – we were stuffed.Β

Prices? Super reasonable for the quality (mains around €12–18, starters €5–8). We left very happy, bellies full, and already plotting our next visit.

Why We Choose Guras

Guras isn’t flashy – it’s authentic. No over-the-top decor, just genuine hospitality and food cooked with care. It’s family-run (you can tell), and they nail that balance of spicy authenticity without overwhelming the Costa Blanca crowd. Reviews on TripAdvisor sit at a solid 4.7/5 with hundreds of happy diners saying the same: “Best Indian/Nepalese on the coast,” “Better than UK takeaways,” “Friendly service and fresh ingredients.”

Garlic Nan
  • In a sea of Spanish and Italian spots, Guras brings something special – a little taste of the Himalayas and subcontinent right here in Moraira. Perfect for when you’re curry-starved or just want to shake up date night/friends’ dinner.
  • Sun Sea Sangria Verdict: 10/10 for flavour, 9/10 for value, 10/10 for making us feel like we’d teleported somewhere exotic for the evening. We’ll definitely be back – maybe next time for their lunch specials or takeaway when we’re too lazy to cook. 🍲
  • Have you tried Guras yet? What’s your go-to dish? Drop a comment below or tag us on Instagram if you go – we’d love to see your plates! And if you’re in the Moraira/Teulada area this weekend, pop in. Your taste buds will thank you. πŸŒΆοΈβ˜€οΈ
