El Campello is a laid-back coastal town on the Costa Blanca, just a short hop north of Alicante city—think long sandy beaches, a relaxed family-oriented atmosphere, and a mix of local life without the high-rise intensity of nearby Benidorm. It’s got over 23 km of coastline, from wide golden stretches to hidden coves and rocky cliffs, making it a great spot for winter sun seekers who want tranquillity with easy access to bigger attractions.

What to do in El Campello? The star is Playa Muchavista (also known as Playa de Mutxavista)—a long, clean beach with shallow waters perfect for swimming, walking, or simply soaking up the mild winter rays. The seafront promenade is wide and welcoming, lined with benches, play areas for kids, and plenty of spots to grab a coffee while watching the Mediterranean sparkle. For a bit of history and nature, check out the Yacimiento Arqueológico La Illeta dels Banyets—an ancient Iberian-Roman site with ruins, a watchtower, and sea views; it’s compact and fascinating for a short visit. The port area (with its yacht club) offers a marina vibe—stroll around, watch boats, or enjoy the sculptures along the Voramar de les Escultures promenade. Water sports like paddleboarding or diving are available year-round, and the town has a Wednesday market for local produce and crafts.

When hunger hits, El Campello delivers fresh Mediterranean flavours, seafood, and international options—many spots along the promenade or near the beach have terraces that catch the sun even in cooler months.

Here are some that have been recommended to me. Let me know if you enjoyed any of them.

  • La Malmirá — A standout steakhouse and Spanish spot with high praise for juicy grilled meats, fresh salads, and a welcoming atmosphere. Great for a hearty meal or sharing plates—often features a nice wine selection too. El Cinco Tapas — Perfect for classic tapas and small plates—think patatas bravas, seafood bites, jamón, and creative twists. Casual, flavorful, and great value; the vibe is lively but relaxed. Borg, Raíces Y Alas — For something a bit more elevated, this Mediterranean place offers creative dishes with local ingredients, good portions, and a cosy feel—ideal for dinner with sea views or a special evening.

Getting there is straightforward: El Campello is super well-connected. The Alicante Metro Tram (TRAM line 1) runs frequently from the Alicante city centre (Luceros station) to Benidorm, with multiple stops in El Campello (like Muchavista or the town centre)—takes about 20-30 minutes from Alicante, €2-4 one way. From Benidorm, it’s around 35-45 minutes by the same tram or ALSA bus. Local Vectalia buses (like line 21) link to Alicante airport or nearby areas too. Once there, everything is walkable along the promenade or a short bus hop.

El Campello feels authentic and unpretentious—ideal for a peaceful day out or as a base near Alicante. If you’ve discovered a hidden beach cove or a standout paella spot here, share in the comments—I’d love to check it out and update the guide! 😊
